Bacalhôa Bical 1931 Vinhas Velhas
Bacalhôa Bical 1931 Old Vines, White 2021
The best Portuguese White of 2023 (Grandes Escolhas magazine)
Quinta da Rigodeira was acquired by Aliança Vinhos de Portugal in 2003. In the heart of Bairrada, between the towns of Fogueira and Ancas, Quinta da Rigodeira has several plots, including one planted in 1931 exclusively with white grape varieties, with special emphasis on the Bical variety.
Vinification: During vinification, there is a 12-hour skin maceration, followed by alcoholic fermentation at 16ºC, using only the purest tear must. Bacalhoa Bical Bairrada Clássico White 2021 is made exclusively from Bical grapes. We ferment 60% of the wine in new, 1-year-old French oak barrels and battonage for 6 months. Aged for 12 months in bottle.
Tasting Notes: Very pale greenish yellow in colour. Intense, very delicate aroma with nuances of white-fleshed fruit and very soft toasted flavours. Balanced and with a long, intense finish. Noticeable mineral notes in the aroma and flavour that give it complexity and longevity. Good acidity, refined and elegant.

Deep and extremely complex, with lemon, toast and maritime freshness, sweet spice appears for seconds, giving way to ripe fruit (pear, apple and mango), aromatic herbs and beeswax. Great texture and ample body, acidity does not appear as the protagonist, but as part of the whole, present without imposing itself. Sublime in performance and very long at the end.
