Quinta do Noval Reserva Branco 2022
Quinta do Noval Reserva White 2022
Structured and opulent, Reserva Branco is the result of a rigorous selection of the best batches of the Quinta's various indigenous grape varieties. It has a remarkable floral aromatic intensity, evocative of the wild flowers and herbs of the Douro.
Vinification: The two grape varieties, Gouveio and Viosinho, are destemmed and lightly crushed before the initial pressing. All the wine is fermented in French oak barrels, 43% new and the rest second year. No malolactic fermentation.
Producer's tasting notes: Quinta do Noval Reserva White shows great harmony with elegant floral, herbaceous, citrus aromas and soft oak notes. Tremendously linked to its terroir, the wine's aromatic expression reflects the natural floral environment that grows alongside the vineyards. It has a lovely, round, fresh structure and a very long finish. Certainly a wine with the capacity to age in the bottle
Grape varieties: 52% Gouveio, 48% Viosinho from the Quinta do Noval vineyards.

This is perfumed with white nectarines, white flowers, raw almonds and dried spicy herbs. Medium- to full-bodied. Solid and meaty with density to its texture. But it still remains juicy and vivid. Long and chalky finish. A blend of viosinho and gouveio. Drink or hold.
A little less new oak here compared with the 2021 Reserva because they thought perhaps it was too much on the 2021. More open than the 2021. Still marked by lime and herbs, with a touch of pear. Tastes drier and denser with more salty flavour on the finish. Greatly improved by the less obvious oak influence. (JH)
