Soalheiro Alvarinho Revirado 2023 is one of the most experimental creations from the Cerdeira family, pioneers of Alvarinho in Monção and Melgaço. It comes from small, high-altitude vineyards planted in granitic soils at around 400 metres, where lower fertility accentuates the acidity, salinity and mineral expression. The name ‘Revirado’ comes from the constant stirring of the lees during fermentation, an approach that deliberately explores the grape variety’s more reductive and profound side. The 2023 vintage reveals great precision, energy and ageing potential, having been awarded 97 points by Tim Atkin.

Winemaking: The fine lees from high-altitude Alvarinho grapes ferment in a ‘spin’ barrel. The high turbidity of the must creates more closed-off aromas, and the rotation allows for full bâtonnage, keeping the lees in suspension and in constant contact with the wine. This is followed by ageing on lees in oak and stainless steel, and subsequent development in the bottle.

Tasting notes: The producer describes it as complex and enveloping, with an initially closed aroma reminiscent of burnt matchsticks. Gradually, lively citrus notes and green apple emerge. On the palate, it is dry, briny and markedly mineral, with a stony texture, firm acidity, great tension and a precise, deep finish.
