Luis Pato Quinta do Ribeirinho Sercialinho Branco 2023
Luís Pato Quinta do Ribeirinho Sercialinho White 2023
Luís Pato Quinta do Ribeirinho Sercialinho White 2023 is one of the rarest and most original wines from the Bairrada region. It originates from Quinta do Ribeirinho, an estate linked to the Pato family for generations, where João Pato planted the first Sercialinho vines in 1968 – a grape variety now closely associated with the estate. This white wine embodies Luís Pato’s pioneering vision: to preserve Portuguese grape varieties on the verge of extinction and to create wines with a strong identity, freshness and longevity. In 2023, the natural acidity exceeds 9 g/L, with a pH of 3.3, resulting in a taut, deep wine ready to develop.
Vinification: Temperature-controlled fermentation in a used 500-litre chestnut barrel, followed by around six months’ ageing in the same vessel. The chestnut wood adds texture and structure without masking the purity of the grape variety.
Tasting notes: Tim Atkin awarded it 97 points, highlighting the aromas of lemon and white peach, the intense and direct acidity, a slight bitterness and the subtle grainy texture imparted by the chestnut wood. On the palate, it is powerful, vibrant and briny, with tremendous energy and a long, fresh and stimulating finish. Recommended drinking window: 2026–2033.
