Hugo Mendes Vital Branco 2020
Hugo Mendes Lisboa Vital Lisboa White 2020
Vital 2020 (IGP Lisboa) was born out of Hugo Mendes' curiosity to revive a little-known Lisbon grape variety and showcase its freshness, lightness and capacity for evolution. The Vital grape variety is a white, indigenous Portuguese variety, originating and most prevalent in the Lisbon region, especially on the slopes and high altitudes of the Serra de Montejunto (Alenquer, Torres Vedras, Óbidos).
Vinification: 75% of the grapes were harvested very early; the rest, two weeks later. The two parts fermented separately, without wood (100% stainless steel), with the final blend being made about a year later. Alcohol content: 11% vol.
Tasting notes in Jancis Robinson: "Intense herby grapefruit aroma but the main impression is mineral and just slightly nutty. Pure, crisp and with a salty, mineral purity that is utterly refreshing but not simple. Quite daring to pick so early but it's worked. Lean but not austere. Long lime-fresh finish. (JH)”
