Hugo Mendes Lisboa Arinto Curtimenta 2023
Hugo Mendes Lisboa Arinto Curtimenta 2023
Curtimenta Arinto is Hugo Mendes' vision for a ‘pure Lisbon’ white wine: Arinto from Alenquer, golden in colour, with Atlantic tension and unpretentious elegance. The 2023 harvest confirmed this direction, earning 18/20 from Julia Harding MW.
Vintage: 2023 brought freshness, low alcohol content (11%) and clean fruit, ideal for an Arinto in contact with skins; drinking window 2024–2031.
Vinification: The grapes for this wine were destemmed and crushed into the tank where they fermented spontaneously without temperature control. After alcoholic fermentation was complete, the tank was sealed and the skins remained in contact with the wine for 9 months. The skins were pressed and after a week, the wine was racked and bottled without stabilisation or filtration.
Tasting Notes (producer) — Straw/golden colour; grapefruit, ripe lemon and nectarine; vegetal notes; structured on the palate, excellent acidity and a long finish.
Grape Varieties — 100% Arinto (IGP Lisboa).

The most impossibly inviting aroma, complex and beguiling, even more so than when I tasted this a year ago on release. Apricot, yellow plum, light notes of spice and dried grasses and a suggestion of jasmine and honeysuckle. The tannins are present and provide an upright framework for the wine but they have become almost silky but still firm enough to convey the style of the wine. Remarkably full of flavour for a wine of only 11%, light on its feet and irresistibly drinkable. Very long finish where all those aromas and flavours are interwoven. (JH)
