Casa Ferreirinha Quinta da Leda 2021
Quinta da Leda 2021 is an excellent red wine from the Upper Douro region, made from the vineyards of Quinta da Leda, one of Casa Ferreirinha's flagship properties, known for producing wines for ageing that express the richness and elegance of the Douro. The result of a combination of typical regional grape varieties, such as Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, this wine is characterised by its aromatic complexity, firm and balanced structure, well-integrated acidity and great ageing potential, authentically reflecting the tradition and quality that have made Casa Ferreirinha an icon of Douro still wines.

An elegant red, fresh and poised, with fine-grained tannins forming a well-tailored frame for flavors of blackberry paste, cherry pâte de fruit, herbed olive and cocoa powder. Long and focused, with spice, espresso and iron notes on the finish. Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão and Tinta Roriz. Drink now through 2035. 5,711 cases made, 300 cases imported.
A concentrated red made up of a blend of 43% touriga franca, 40% touriga nacional, 7% tinta cao, 5% tinta roriz and 5% sousao. This has ripe aromas of prunes and spices with violets and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied and very intense with plenty of dark-fruit flavors. Aged in 50% new oak. Better in a year or two.
Sober, revealing great complexity with menthol and delicate violet notes, beautiful fruit without exuberance, black pepper, thyme and coffee. Austere, medium-bodied and very fresh, with a certain minerality, lively tannins, although well polished and needing time. Long and slightly dry finish.
Dark purplish crimson with purple rim. Intense aroma of every kind of black and blue fruit, becoming sweetly spicy, open and generous but still with the rocky savour of the Douro Superior. This last shows even more on the palate. Smooth, chocolatey, caressing tannins but also nicely dry and fresh on the finish. Deep and long and surprisingly approachable but should age well as the oak recedes. It's deceptively approachable now but will reward those who can wait a little longer.
