Anselmo Mendes 'Parcela Unica' Alvarinho 2022
Anselmo Mendes Single Plot Alvarinho 2022
Anselmo Mendes Single Plot 2022 is one of the most ambitious interpretations of the Alvarinho from Monção and Melgaço. It comes from a single plot at Quinta da Torre, near a tributary of the River Minho, where the clay and rounded pebble soils lend depth, tension and a strong mineral character. Created to reveal the purest and most authentic expression of the grape variety, this white wine is produced in a limited run of 8,000 bottles, combining elegance, complexity and the potential for ageing. In 2022, it achieved exceptional precision, recognised with 97 points by Tim Atkin.
Winemaking: Hand-harvested into small crates, very gentle pressing of whole, destemmed grapes and long cold settling. Fermentation in new 400-litre French oak barrels, followed by nine months on lees in the same barrels, with moderate bâtonnage during the first few months, and a further 12 months of ageing in bottle.
Tasting notes: An austere and complex nose, with wildflowers, hay, fine herbs, subtle pineapple, green fruit and the minerality of wet stone, accompanied by light notes of hazelnut, vanilla and smoke. On the palate, it is taut, precise and vertical, with vibrant acidity, a silky texture and a long, elegant and deeply mineral finish. Tim Atkin highlights the balance between immediate freshness and great ageing potential, recommending consumption between 2026 and 2032.
Grape varieties: 100% Alvarinho.

Sourced from the estate’s best parcel, close to a tributary of the Minho River where the vines are grown on clay and river stones, Mendes has produced an extraordinary expression of Vinho Verde.
It is fermented in lightly toasted 400-litre French oak barrels and aged for nine months with minimal bâtonnage, and none after the first three months.
Floral and subtly green, with pineapple fruit, stony reduction and a gentle smoky note, it is rich yet impeccably balanced by racy acidity and mineral tension.
Pithy, graceful and profoundly expressive, it combines immediate drinkability with impressive ageing potential. 2026-32
