F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Ried Klostersatz 2024
F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Ried Klostersatz 2024
F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Ried Klostersatz Organic 2024 comes from Loiben in the Wachau, from one of the region’s oldest vineyards, planted by monks from Bavaria and Salzburg. Ried Klostersatz, situated in the great bend of the Danube between Dürnstein and Oberloiben, rests on deep soils of fine sand, gravel and pebbles – an ideal terroir for Grüner Veltliner with spicy fruit and subtle minerality. 2024 was a challenging year in the Wachau: a wet winter, a warm spring with very early budbreak, late frosts in April, intense heat in the summer and even flooding during the harvest. Despite this, the vintage produced elegant, very pure wines that were surprisingly approachable from an early stage.
Vinification: The grapes were hand-harvested, carefully selected and destemmed. They underwent approximately 3 hours of skin contact, fermented in stainless steel to preserve varietal expression, and aged for 4 months on fine lees before bottling. It is a certified organic, dry white wine, with 12% ABV and a screw cap.
Tasting notes: Greenish-yellow with silvery highlights. On the nose, grapefruit, white apple, chamomile and elderflower emerge, with a very subtle mineral and herbaceous touch. On the palate, it is taut, fresh and elegant, with lively acidity, marked salinity and a long, clean and very food-friendly finish. A perfect Wachau DAC white for seafood, fish and light cuisine.
