Decoy Zinfandel 2019
Decoy Zinfandel 2019
Decoy Zinfandel 2019 is one of the most seductive expressions in the Decoy range, a project created by the Duckhorn family to showcase the more accessible, yet still meticulously crafted, side of great Californian wines. It embodies the estate’s philosophy: generous fruit, balance and a profile that is easy to enjoy, without losing its identity. This wine, sourced from the finest vineyards, features a strong presence of fruit from Dry Creek Valley, a benchmark region for Zinfandel in Northern California. The 2019 vintage has produced a ripe and enveloping Zinfandel, with excellent fruit definition and a very well-polished structure. There is a fantastic balance between richness, texture and freshness, something not always easy to achieve with this grape variety.
Vinification: Aged 12 months in French oak, 30% new barrels, a choice that adds depth, spice and a creamy texture, without masking the wine’s lively and fruity character. It has an alcohol content of 13.9% vol.
Tasting Notes: On the nose, exuberant, with aromas of blueberry, blackberry, black pepper, cherry, plum and liquorice. On the palate, the fruit remains full and juicy, supported by silky tannins and a lively acidity that prevents any excess. The finish reveals subtle notes of vanilla, nutmeg and sweet spices, offering a rich yet balanced profile. A highly versatile red, perfect with grilled meats or Tex-Mex cuisine.
Grape Varieties: 80% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah and 4% Carignan

The signature briary, black-peppery characteristics of the variety feature in this medium- to full-bodied wine in the first vintage that it is labeled as California AVA—now using grapes from Sonoma, Mendocino and the Central Coast. Aged in French oak, with 30% new, this wine delivers great balance, crystal clear fruit flavors and an appetizing texture, as moderate tannins grip and shape the raspberry, pepper and wild sage notes.
