Tapada do Chaves White 2022
Tapada do Chaves White 2022
Tapada do Chaves White 2022 is a white wine from Alto Alentejo, produced from Arinto, Antão Vaz and Fernão Pires grape varieties from the historic Vinha Velha (1903) and Vinha do Castanheiro vineyards, located at an altitude of around 400 metres. Ideal for immediate consumption or to evolve in the bottle.
Vinification: Manual harvest from three plots of the Castanheiro vineyard. Manual selection of grapes, followed by pressing of whole bunches without destemming. Clarification of the must by gravity, using the traditional method at low temperature. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature using neutral yeasts, thus preserving the typical characteristics and expression of the terroir. Aged for 9 months in tanks on fine lees with periodic bâtonnage. Aged for 12 months in the bottle before release.
Tasting Notes: Citrus green colour. Classic aromatic profile without wood, intense, warm and complex. White fruit emerges with floral nuances and some citrus, orange peel. Also, very soft fermentative notes, brioche. Quite voluminous and unctuous on the palate, very direct fruit, with firm acidity and delicate minerality. Very long finish, with fruit, volume and elegance, great character.

The golden-colored 2022 Branco Vinhas Velhas has a Mediterranean nose of dry hay, straw and aromatic herbs, hints of pollen, beeswax and chamomile. It was produced with a field blend of varieties—Arinto, Malvasia Fina, Fernão Pires, Tamarez and Roupeiro—from a vineyard planted in 1903 on granite soils. It was hand-harvested, the bunches sorted and selected and pressed whole, the must let to settle and then fermented in stainless steel and French oak barrels, where it matured with the lees and bâtonnage for six months, and the bottles were kept for a further 24 months. It comes in at 13% alcohol, with a pH of 3.15 and 5.8 grams of acidity, finishing bone dry and with a chalky feeling to it. It's a really old-style white with rusticity, elegance and, above all, character. 3,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2023.
