Madeira Barbeito Tinta Negra 2007
Madeira Barbeito Tinta Negra 2007
Madeira Barbeito Tinta Negra 2007 comes from a single vineyard located on the lower slopes of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, on the south coast of Madeira Island. It is known for combining ancient methods, such as ageing on the vine (gradual exposure to heat), with clean and elegant winemaking, respecting the character of the grape varieties and the terroir as much as possible. This wine is ideal served slightly chilled, with foie gras, mature cheeses, dried fruit or desserts such as almond tart. It also shines on its own! Its natural acidity allows it to age for many years after bottling, making it an excellent choice for those who like to keep special wines.
Vinification: Half of the grapes are harvested a week before they have reached full ripeness, giving them the advantage of greater acidity. This was reinforced using a continuous press in the winemaking process. In March 2008, the wine began to age using the traditional Canteiro method, at moderate temperatures, in old French oak casks. In May 2018, 2.378 units were bottled.
Tasting Notes: Light gold colour. Dried fruit aromas of walnuts and pistachio, yellow fruit Jam, green leaf with a mineral hint. Fresh delicate palate and a well- balanced citric acidity. Excellent as an aperitif. Accompanies well olives, toasted almonds, marinated fish, salads and cheese.

Intense orange-liqueur nose. Tiny bit of floor polish. Moroccan leather. Roasted chestnuts and walnuts. SO SO much orange. It explodes across the palate, empyrean, fiery, a dragon's egg wine turning stone into heat into fire into power, then softening, towards the finish, into succulent morello cherries wrapped in not-yet-cured tobacco leaf. Resplendent, shimmering, like pearls cast in bronze in firelight.
Golden colour. At first closed in aroma, needs to open up. Reveals orange peel, candied lemon. In the mouth, hints of dried plum, vanilla ice cream with cinnamon and nuts. Good acidity, but with delicacy and a sweet, custardy finish.
