Barbeito Malvasia Cândida Reserva Especial

Barbeito Malvasia Cândida is an exceptional Madeira wine produced by the prestigious Vinhos Barbeito house. Made from the rare Malvasia Candida grape variety, the first to be planted on Madeira Island, it arrived in Fajã dos Padres by the Jesuits in the second half of the 16th century. It stands out for its uniqueness and quality. Ideal as a digestif or to accompany strong cheeses.

Vinification: The grapes are harvested in Fajã dos Padres and aged in the warehouses. This wine resulted in 2366 individually numbered bottles.

Tasting Notes: Smells like candied citrus peel and lemon curd. Honeysuckle and honey-roasted pecans. This is amazing. SO much density, breadth, excitement. Thrilling. Honeyed richness and citrus with a tiny nudge of coffee cream and lemon zest. Absolutely humming with life. So long. Frangipani and Persian lime flood the finish with a strange, exotic freshness. Jancis Robinson

Don’t be deceived by the fact that this is a non-vintage wine, because this great medium-sweet Madeira is rippling with mature nutty notes, toffee and dried fig character. However, what makes it stand out is the wonderful elegance and subtle nuancing of the flavors. At the vibrant finish it glides off and out towards the distant horizon. Drink or hold.
