Petrolo Galatrona Val D’Arno di Sopra 2022
Petrolo Galatrona Valdarno di Sopra 2022
Galatrona Val D'Arno di Sopra 2022 is Petrolo's Merlot ‘Grand-Cru’, from vineyards planted between the 1980s and 1990s with low vigour Bordeaux clones in the town of Feriale, covering an area of around 10 hectares. Since 2016, Petrolo has certified its vineyards as organic. To favour the vineyard's natural balance, the vegetation is managed manually. The combination of clay and stones makes it possible to produce an elegant and very structured wine, even in vintages considered inferior.
Vinification: Manual harvesting and selection of the grapes on a sorting table. Natural vinification with indigenous yeasts in cement vats. Frequent but gentle manual pumping over. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in wood. Ageing in French oak barrels, one third new, for around 18 to 20 months. Constant lees batonnage for the first 6 months.
Tasting Notes: Intense elegant wine with great structure and complexity, lovely balance between acidity, fruit and tannins. A great wine, beyond the grape varietal it is made from, must be expression of the piece of land it came from. Beyond being essentially good, it has to be a classic in its own way.

The floral aromas are spellbinding, with aromas of violets, lilacs, orange peel, raspberries, rose petals, and some oranges. It’s medium- to full-bodied with crunchy and open-grain tannins that are creamy and caressing. It’s endless in the finish. Crunchy and energetic. A wine that is thoughtful and gives you such great pleasure. Such purity. It’s like eating perfectly ripened grape must. Pure merlot. Drinkable in many ways, but will come together beautifully. A new reference point for merlot in Italy. Drink after 2028.
