Textura D. Áurea Red 2021

Textura D. Áurea Tinto 2021 is a 100% Bastardo from vineyards at an altitude of 600 metres on granite soils. The homage to grandmother D. Áurea, it symbolises the connection to the family with Portuguese roots. It has delicate fruity aromas, together with freshness and a certain austerity. Very complex. Goes well with roasts, red meats and octopus.

Vinification: The Bastardo grapes are fermented in a mill with 30 per cent of the whole bunch and macerated for 15 days. They then go into old barrels and age for 1 year.

Tasting Notes: Delicate aromas with a fruity character and some balsamic and spicy notes. Firm but textured tannins, a high sensation of freshness and great complexity. It has enormous potential for bottle ageing.

Grape Varieties: Bastardo

Winemakers: Luís Seabra and Mariana Salvador

The varietal Bastardo (Trousseau) 2021 D. Áurea comes from two plots of 45-year-old vines on granite soils at 600 meters above sea level. It fermented with 30% full clusters and matured in used 225-liter barriques for 12 months. It has a moderate 12% alcohol, a pH of 3.65 and 5.15 grams of acidity. It's medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and has a varietal nose of red berries and herbs with an earthy twist, balsamic and perfumed. Only 730 bottles were filled in March 2023.

Light bricky ruby colour. Distinctive Bastardo (aka Trousseau) aroma of tart red fruits and citrus. Light-bodied, high in acidity and utterly mouth-watering. You need to know what you are letting yourself in for here – especially if your preference is for rich, generous reds – but it is an excellent example of the variety, all lean and sinewy, utterly fresh, the tannins light but dry. Chalky finish. Still very youthful.

A pure and fragrant bastardo with dried herbs, cherries and some floral aromas woven in. The fruit-forward palate has supersilky tannins, a nervy touch and an ethereal, misty finish. Fermented with about 35% whole clusters and aged in used French-oak barrique for 12 months. Drink now.
