Quinta do Gradil Ganita Red 2015

Located in the Lisbon Region, which is one of the most important Portuguese regions in terms of vineyard area and wine production. The climate is temperate, of Atlantic influence, with a relatively mild summer, cooler and wetter in the areas closest to the sea, and hotter and drier in the areas protected by the Montejunto mountain range.

Vinification and ageing: Made from Tannat, Alfrocheiro and Touriga Nacional grapes, vinified separately in 500 litre rotary barrels (spin-barrel), with subsequent ageing for 12 months in 225 litre barrels made from wood of different origins, and a further 12 months in the bottle, where it continues to rest.

Tasting Notes: On the palate there are deep aromas of bergamot, hints of mint (balsamic) and Chinese ink. The palate reveals intense tannins, but very elegant and well integrated into the structure of the wine, providing an unforgettable and long finish.

Grape varieties: Tannat, Alfrocheiro and Touriga Nacional

Analytical Data: Alcohol content 14.5%

Oenology: Vera Moreira.

Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional and Tannat are an unusual mix of grape varieties, but it works marvellously in this red that combines the ripe fruit and floral nuance of the Portuguese varieties with the texture and muscle of the French, all wrapped up in the Atlantic freshness of this terroir. Despite the ageing time, it's still extremely young, dark and concentrated, vigorous and opulent, with mint and pepper on the very long and refreshing finish. A great red wine that doesn't care about fashions and that will continue to stay with us for decades to come.
