Caiarossa Rosso di Toscana IGT 2022
Caiarossa Rosso di Toscana IGT 2022
Caiarossa Rosso di Toscana IGT 2022 is produced in Riparbella, on the Tuscan coast, at a biodynamic estate where the Mediterranean landscape and diverse soils give rise to one of the region’s most distinctive red wines. It is the estate’s signature wine and the soul of its first and oldest vineyard: a ‘Super Tuscan’ with a deep, elegant profile and full of character, designed to showcase the richness of the terroir rather than the strength of a single grape variety. 2022 was marked by a typically coastal climate, allowing for slow and steady ripening, preserving freshness and complexity. The winery itself describes it as a precision vintage, with velvety tannins, great balance and profound elegance.
Vinification: Hand-harvested. Each plot and each grape variety was vinified separately, in concrete and wooden vats, with slow fermentations and gentle extractions. Following malolactic fermentation, the final blend was aged (14 months) in French oak barrels.
Tasting notes: Glass, displays depth and sophistication, with dark fruit, cassis, black cherry, balsamic notes, eucalyptus, dried spices and a subtle Mediterranean character. Palate, full-bodied, silky and very harmonious, with polished tannins, lively freshness and a long, persistent, slightly spicy finish. A great Tuscan red for the table and the cellar.
Grape varieties: 32% Cabernet Franc, 26% Syrah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Sangiovese, 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Grenache

Underbrush, crushed raspberries, lavender, cedar, mint leaf, sandalwood, warming and inviting, feels very much that you are in Tuscany here with its fragrance and spice, coupled with dark fruits, an excellent vintage of Caiarossa. Owners AJ Domaines, technical director Francesco Villa, cellar master Marco Lipparini.
Deep lustrous crimson (like most of these!). Ripe and well melded and interestingly attractive on the nose thought there are sandpaper tannins and a little bitterness on the end at present.
A spicy, dark but fancy wine with elegant aromas of cassis, black cherries, eucalyptus and oak bark. Full-bodied. Amazing polished, velvety tannins. The palate is very savory and spicy, with fruit and clove flavors. Balanced finish. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.
The organic 2022 Caiarossa is a blend of 32% Cabernet Franc, 26% Syrah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Sangiovese, 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Grenache, with the best fruit selected from across the estate to express a true synthesis of the Riparbella territory and its still largely untapped potential. Surrounded by Macchia mediterranea, the vineyards impart a slightly wild, authentically Tuscan character that comes through clearly in the wine. Complex and measured in its intensity, this red blend balances depth with restraint, offering nuance rather than excess. Production totals 40,000 bottles.
The nose offers black plum, fig, pomegranate, damp soil, and then pepper emerges to take over a savory palate, with tart blackberries and bergamot. Sleek, taut tannins guide a steely finish.
There’s plenty of blackberry, black currant, iron and oak spice flavors in this red, along with an accent of vanilla from the oak aging. There are also pointed, assertive tannins that will require time to integrate. It’s difficult to see the end balance today, yet there’s a lasting impression of ripe fruit. Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Grenache. Best from 2028 through 2040. 2,400 cases made, 800 cases imported.
