Joseph Drouhin Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2011
Joseph Drouhin Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2011
Joseph Drouhin Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2011 is one of the great red wines of the Côte de Nuits, born in the legendary Clos de la Roche climat, north of Morey-Saint-Denis, next to Gevrey-Chambertin. The name (‘enclosure of the rock’) refers to the white limestone subsoil that rises to the surface and marks the character of the wine. Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880, is a pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture.
Vintage 2011
2011 in Burgundy produced classic reds, with aromas of black fruits and spices, round tannins and excellent balance. At Clos de la Roche, the year produced a harmonious Grand Cru.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes, with rigorous selection. Between 20 and 50% of the bunches are kept whole. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts takes place in small open vats, with 2–3 weeks of maceration, punching down and pumping over; pressing is done in a vertical press, carefully separating the different fractions. The wine is aged for 16–20 months in French oak barrels, about 30% of which are new.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby colour. The nose is sumptuous, with ripe black cherry, notes of musk and cigar box, enveloped by spices and candied fruit. In the mouth, it has a velvety texture, fine, fully integrated tannins and a very long finish, where hints of sweet spice and fruit compote linger - a Grand Cru of great fullness and elegance.
Grape varieties
100% Pinot Noir.
