Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Brut Rose 2006

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Brut Rosé is a prestigious cuvée from the Taittinger house, produced in truly exceptional harvests. This edition blends 30% Chardonnay from the Grands Crus of the prestigious Côte des Blancs region and 70% Pinot Noir from the Grands Crus of Montagne de Reims. In addition, it includes about 15% still red wine to create its pink hue and unique texture. With an estimated consumption window between 2015 and 2036, it is a work to be enjoyed over several years.

Vinification: Only the juice from the first pressing (‘la cuvée’) is used. After the initial vinification, part of the Pinot Noir is vinified as red wine and later added to the blend to give this cuvée its characteristic colour, depth and texture. It is then aged in the house's underground chalk cellars. Finally, the dosage and cellar time are adjusted to ensure balance, freshness and ageing potential.

Tasting Notes: This is the rarest cuvée from the Champagne House. Its fruity character and smooth, caressing flavour make it a delicious luxury to be enjoyed in small sips. This year was predominantly warm. The Chardonnays have rich and complex aromas of white and citrus fruits, along with white flowers, as well as a lovely minerality that gives them elegance and sophistication.

Grape Varieties: 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay

A lovely Champagne, offering a rich and expressive palate of dried strawberry and white peach fruit, with toasted hazelnut, pastry, candied ginger and lemon curd flavors set in a fine and elegant frame. Long and creamy on the satiny finish. Drink now through 2031. 60 cases imported.

The lively mousse carries this sophisticated wine, which is the perfect partner to the Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs. Everything is in its place, well integrated and with great precision. This trends to the sweeter side of Brut but with bottle age this has brought fine secondary flavors that are ripe and rich. The wine will age further, drink until 2020.

A 15% addition of still red pinot to the Blanc de Blancs Comtes works well in that the DNA of the white version is familiar to those fans out there, but is delivered with a seductive twist. Aromas of wild cherries, rose water, cherries and citrus lead to a palate with fresh red cherry. Bold and rich, this will develop handy savoriness with age. Best from 2020.

Tasted blind. Pale orangey copper. Some dry phenolic finish but there is lots of round, sweet fruit in the middle. Less lively than the other rosé champagnes but definitely richer, even though the end is definitely dry. Interesting wine!

Bright orange with a delicate copper touch and a lively mousse. Delicate nuances of wild berries, hints of raspberry and red cherry. Juicy on the palate, elegant texture, fruity-sweet, well-structured, mineral touch on the finish, already accessible, cherry nuances on the finish, increases with bottle maturity.

Taittinger's 2006 Comtes de Champagne Rosé blends Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with 16% red wine, mainly from Bouzy. Lovely, pure and fresh on the nose, with spicy sweet cherry aromas and red berry flavors, this is a rich and potent, full-bodied and firmly structured Rosé with nice purity and freshness. The finish reveals a sweet intensity and good length.
