Giodo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
Giodo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
Giodo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018 is a limited production wine from winemaker Carlo Ferrini, who, in his personal project in Montalcino, favours the elegance and authenticity of Sangiovese, sourced from vineyards cultivated on just 6 hectares. Aged for around 30 months in French oak, followed by ageing in concrete and bottle, it expresses aromatic complexity with notes of red and black fruit, spices, flowers and earthy touches, combined with fine, well-structured tannins, balanced acidity and great persistence. It is a modern and refined Brunello, reflecting Ferrini's quest for perfection and distinguished by its exclusivity and strong capacity for evolution in the bottle.
Vinification: Fermentation: 9 days in steel tanks, and 20 days skin contact Maturation: approx. 30 months in 500, 700 and 2,500-litre oak casks, followed by additional time in concrete vats and 18 months in bottle.
Tasting Notes: Gives us a promising taste of what we can expect from this warm vintage. The wine delivers ripe, but delicate aromas of cassis and dark cherry with shades of lilac, violet and crushed limestone. The tannins are present and well managed. Carlo Ferrini's Brunello promises a long aging trajectory. Robert Parker

Powerful and welcoming, with sweet black cherry and blueberry fruits, grilled sandalwood, smoked butterscotch, cut herbs and five spice, adding in sculpted edges of mint and sour cherry as it opens. The tannins are brushed velvet in texture, and this is full of life and punch. A 3ha site, producing 13,000 bottles. Carlo Ferrini winemaker.
This wine was tasted in a preview capacity as it won't hit the market until the beginning of next year. Tasted at the Giodo winery in one of the most remote and beautiful spots in the appellation surrounded by forests and wide open panoramas, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino gives us a promising taste of what we can expect from this warm vintage. The wine delivers ripe, but delicate aromas of cassis and dark cherry with shades of lilac, violet and crushed limestone. The tannins are present and well managed. Carlo Ferrini's Brunello promises a long aging trajectory.
Black-cherry, violet, lavender and orange-peel aromas follow through to a medium to full body with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. Such focus and brightness. Agile and weightless at the end. Not the biggest Giodo, but pretty and precise. Drinkable now, but wait for two or three years. Try after 2024.
Bright medium dense ruby garnet colour. Opens with notes of blood oranges, fresh plums, black cherries, some rose petals in the background. Juicy and compact initially and when developing, shows a lot of dense tannins, multi-layered, with dark cherries, hearty drive on the finish.
The nose brings an umami sanguinity, with notes of tar, petrol and soil, but undertones of black cherries and blackberries make those aromas invigorating rather than harsh. The fruit ripens on the palate, but a slow-developing, spiced earthiness works with deliberate tannins and latent acid to maintain propriety.
Glowing ruby. High toned and no sign of any tannins at all! Soft and easy with a slightly drying streak running right through. Fully ripe Sangiovese is the dominant characteristic. Hint of prunes and veg and very long, but for relatively early consumption.
