Vinha das Penicas Red 2019

Vinha das Penicas Red 2019 was born in Terras de Sicó in Beira Atlântico, by the hands of Alberto Almeida. It's a wine from very old vines, where elegance and freshness stand out. It's a tense, complex and elegant wine, full of individuality and character. It is the result of the second manual harvest carried out in the old vines, where they found the red grape varieties baga, bastardo, rufete and grand noir, among others. Goes well with red meats, game dishes and cheeses.

Vinification: Fermented in an open press with indigenous yeasts. Aged for 24 months in French oak barrels purchased in St Emilion - Bordeaux region, followed by a year in the bottle.

Tasting Notes: Ruby colour. It shows notes of forest and wild berries, as well as hints of white pepper, tobacco box and flint. Tense and complex, full of uniqueness and personality, as well as marked by freshness and elegance.

Grape Varieties: Old Vines: Baga, Rufete, Bastardo and Grand Noir

Winemaker: Alberto Almeida

Mid smudgy crimson. Open, red-fruited Baga purity on the nose, with a touch of oak spice. Firm, dry Baga tannins that need more time, many paper-thin layers add up to a firm finish. Fresh, smooth, very youthful and needs more bottle age. Dry, stony and refined on the finish. The chalkiness of tannins I associate with limestone soils.
