Quinta De Azevedo Torre Grande Escolha White 2022
Quinta de Azevedo Torre Grande 2022 is an elegant, fresh white wine with strong aromas. Perfect with fish and seafood dishes. It's more than a wine, it's an expression of high quality viticulture.
Vinification: The hand-picked grapes are immediately sent to the cold room. After reaching 10ºC, they are gently sent to the destemmer and gently pressed at low temperatures, followed by cold static decanting for 3 to 5 days, with the lees rising in the first 24 hours. Fermentation at a controlled temperature of 15-16ºC. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine aged for 8 months in 1200 litre barrels and 500 litre French oak barrels of 1st and 2nd use. 15% of the blend aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks to preserve all its freshness.
Tasting notes: Bright light yellow colour. Exuberant aroma of ripe stone fruit, with hints of apricot or ripe red peach. There are also notes of wood ageing. The palate is full and full of volume. Again, the ripe stone fruit stands out, but it's very fresh, which allows it to withstand all the intensity. It finishes long and persistent.

This smells richer and riper than the 2023s – Loureiro and Alvarinho varietals – just tasted, with aromas of pear and clementine as well as ripe citrus and a light herbal note. There's a creamy richness that reveals the light oak influence, which shows a little more on the palate than on the nose. Big, creamy, generous and deliciously fresh. A definite step up from the two Escohla 2023s just tasted. More depth and length and, I think, greater ageing capacity, though it is lovely now. Sour-fresh pear on the finish and just that slight creaminess. Pure and crisp, persistent.
