    Massetino 2022

Massetino, brother of the great Tuscan icon (Masseto), had its first harvest in 2017, released in 2019, precisely 30 years after the first harvest of Masseto.

    Vinification

After destemming and gentle crushing, the grapes were transferred to concrete vats by gravity, without any pumping over. Fermentation took place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts at temperatures of around 25-28°C, with pumping over two or three times a day and destages when necessary. The total time spent in the vats ranged from 21 to 25 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in 50 per cent new oak barrels. After the first 12 months of ageing, the wine was blended and left to rest in concrete tanks for around three months before being bottled.

    Product Tasting Notes

The nose of Massetino 2022 already expresses all the warmth of the sun that it encountered during its maturation in the vineyard. The vibrancy and length of the palate encourage us to return to the glass to grasp the deep nuances of Massetino 2022, which finishes with a freshness reminiscent of pleasant September evenings. The firm tannins and pulpy red fruit flavours give the wine a beautiful fullness that never seems to fade.

This is refined and fresh with hints of sandalwood to the beautiful blue fruits. It’s medium-bodied with creamy and polished tannins that frame the blue fruit and hints of crushed stone. Succulent and juicy with a crunchy personality. You want a sip right away. Second wine of the highest quality from Masseto. So drinkable and wonderful. Drink or hold.

Clear cinnamon and baking spices on the nose, a ton of personality, Tuscan character in spades. Spice, liquorice and underbrush, plump red fruits, sweet but balanced by fresh acidities and a ton of lift on the finish. Moreish and easy to share. Marco Balsimelli winemaker, Marchesi Frescobaldi owners. 11ha vineyard, a classic year for Tuscany, if on the extreme end of that with high temperatures and low rainfall. 50% new oak for ageing, 12 months in barrel then 3 months in bottle.

This is opulent, with a lush texture enveloping black cherry, blackberry and plum flavors. Flashes of tar, iron and wild herbs add detail as this red builds to the long finish. Balanced and fresh, with sweet, lingering oak spice notes. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. - Bruce Anderson
