F.X. Pichler Durnsteiner Liebenberg Gruner Veltliner 2024
F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Ried Liebenberg Organic 2024 comes from the Dürnsteiner Ried Liebenberg, one of the most interesting plots in the Wachau, situated west of Dürnstein and first mentioned in 1312. The name refers to the ancient noble family of the Liebenbergers. The upper terraces are dominated by paragneiss with outcrops of amphibolite, resting on a base of highly calcareous marl. It is a terroir that produces wines of great mineral elegance and density. 2024 was a challenging year, but the Liebenberg turned out particularly well: serious in character, precise, already very expressive and with great ageing potential. International critics describe it as a wine of depth and tension, with a very long drinking window.
Vinification: It is crafted to let the vineyard speak more than the winery. Hand-picking, a very precise reading of the terroir and a minimalist approach serve a clear objective: to preserve the clarity, texture and identity of the Ried Liebenberg. Since 2024, the estate’s plots have also been certified organic.
Tasting notes: Nose: yellow and green pear, moss, white flowers and a very distinct dark minerality. Palate: opens with a creamy texture, but quickly reveals the vineyard’s signature: white pepper, vibrant freshness, depth and a salty, spicy note that lingers with great precision. An austere, sophisticated white, clearly made to age in the bottle.

Aromas of golden apples, peaches, oolong tea and herbs in this cool white. Lovely balance of fruit, herbs and salty, mineral freshness, with a medium body and phenolic firmness guiding the wine through to a bone-dry, savory finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Light yellow green, silver reflections. Nuances of grapefruit, tangerine zest, floral undertones, mineral, a multi-faceted, light Veltliner style. Taut, tight-knit, appears somewhat austere despite the abundance of fruit, fine acidity, a fine food wine, very good length, will benefit from more bottle ageing.
