Chateau de Fieuzal 2023
Chateau de Fieuzal 2023
Chateau de Fieuzal 2023 is a fine red wine from Pessac-Léognan that embodies the gravelly elegance of Graves with a modern, precise profile full of character. The estate’s history dates back over 400 years, with the name Fieuzal having been adopted in 1864. Its red wine was recognised as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves in 1959, that confirms the historical and qualitative significance of this Bordeaux château. Since 2001, the estate belongs to Quinn family, who spearheaded a new phase in the affirmation of the Fieuzal style. In 2023, there is talk of a true ‘vintage terroir’. Rainfall was decisive for the balance of the vineyards, particularly in the deep soils of fine gravel, which ensured remarkable water supply. The harvest was long, requiring extraordinary work, the estate prioritised maceration to preserve the freshness, definition and purity of the fruit.
Vinification: Benefits from a winery designed to work plot by plot, with stainless steel, concrete and oak vats, allowing extraction and ageing to be precisely adapted to the characteristics of each batch and each vintage.
Tasting notes: Reveals a fragrant bouquet of blackberry, cherry and violet flowers, with medium to full-bodied texture, fleshy fruit, lively acidity, fine tannins and a mineral, pure and persistent finish. Is sophisticated, vibrant and highly gastronomic, with authenticity, depth and excellent ageing potential.
Grape varieties: 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot

Very impressive freshness and focus here. Bright and succulent, al-dente fruit right upfront and continuing through the whole length of the wine. Notes of forest floor, sea shell and iodine. Medium body. It has bright acidity that adds tension and a lot of energy. Fine tannins, already beautifully integrated.
Deep plum colour, this is vibrant and full of character, brambled fruit, we are in full hedgerow charm here, juicy, savoury, a ton of intensity and salinity. Chocolate, salted cracker, grip. Single point upscore.
Light and open aroma of dark-red fruit, less Cabernet-dominant than some Pessac 2023s. Light-bodied, light tannins but all in harmony if relatively simple. You could drink this now!
The 2023 de Fieuzal reflects the estate’s ongoing refinement in matters of ripeness, élevage and extraction, revealing a complex and vibrant bouquet of cassis, mulberries, peony and rose petals, subtly accented by menthol. Medium- to full-bodied, precise and dense, it is crystalline and seamless, layered and finely textured, framed by powdery tannins and concluding with a long, ethereal and floral finish. This is a particularly accomplished rendition that allows both terroir and vintage to speak with clarity and authority.
Deep dark ruby, purple reflections. Delicate notes of nougat and spices, black cherries, some blackberries and cassis, inviting bouquet. Medium complexity, red berryish texture, fresh acidity, chocolatey in the finish, balanced and persistent, a versatile food wine.
