Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial, Venta 2025
Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial, Venta 2025 (DO Ribera del Duero)
Único Reserva Especial is a non-vintage red wine that pays homage to the Spanish tradition of blending the best harvests. Venta 2025 combines Único 2011, 2012 and 2013, ‘the very essence of the Vega Sicilia estate’, with 14% ABV and a ageing potential of 60 years. Hand-picked in 12 kg boxes; altitude 700–900 m; low yield (3,000–3,500 kg/ha).
Vinification: The Tinto Fino and Cabernet Sauvignon plots (average vine age 36 years, 2,222 plants/ha, 210 ha) are vinified and aged in the Único style; the final blend is then left to rest for a long time before release. The winery describes a long process, with ageing in 225 L barrels (French and American, new and used) and large vats, followed by refinement in the bottle; Venta 2025 was bottled in May 2021. t
Tasting notes (according to the producer): a wine ‘shaped by time’, combining the virtues and expressions of three years to create a harmonious, deep and subtle profile, faithful to the terroir; ready to drink, but with decades of ageing potential. temposvegasicilia.com

This is Vega Sicilia's 2025 release. A mix of three vintages: 2011, 2012 and 2013. Blackberries, ashtray, incense, fine spices, dark chocolate and touches of black pepper and balsamic. Almost something bloody, but the highlight is really the sheer, velvety sheet of sweet, fully melted tannins, which are ultra-polished and refined. The long finish goes on well over a minute. Drink on release or hold.
The NV Único Reserva Especial 2025 Release was produced with a blend of wines from 2011, 2012 and 2013, with 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.86 and five grams of acidity. It has the core of the 2012 vintage, possibly the higher percentage in the blend too, providing the power and structure to go along with the freshness and tension of 2013, which also contributes some balsamic characteristics, and it has less of the 2011. The wine shows extra complexity and elegance, and it has the Único nose with more nuance and subtleness. But what I like the most is the silky texture and the elegance of the tannins—as usual, they combine more developed characteristics with elegance and freshness. This is another stellar release of their non-vintage classical blend, slowly going back to the style of yesteryear. A total of 18,518 bottles and 261 magnums were produced. It was bottled in May 2021.
96% Tinto Fino, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. During the 1960s the house began to reserve part of the wine from the most iconic vintages to make a blend. A tribute that brings together the best vintages for the winery's representative wine. The 2025 release is a blend of vintages 2011, 2012 and 2013. 2011 provides most of the tertiaries; 2012, the muscle and structure; 2013, the freshness as it was a vintage with a rather Atlantic profile. 9 years in barrels, large foudres and bottle. It is a blend that aims to demonstrate the greatness of Vega Sicilia. Production: 18,518 bottles and 261 magnums.
Graphite, truffle, tobacco, sapidity and tannin that is pure silk. It offers great balance and depth. Multi-layered aromas and a balance between smooth tannin and a clearly tertiary flavour profile with dried herbs and lots of cedar. (FC)
