Cem Reis Reserva 2022
Herdade da Maroteira Cem Reis Reserva 2022
Cem Reis 2022 is a distinctive wine, produced exclusively from Syrah at Herdade da Maroteira. The estate covers 540 hectares and belongs to the same family for 5 generations since the mid-19th century. At that time, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo cork oak forest to satisfy the needs of the Port wine industry in northern Portugal, and for around 150 years, the focus of the estate's production was cork and cattle. It wasn't until 2000 that Philip Mollet, the current owner and manager of the estate, decided to plant vines. Since then, the estate has been producing excellent Alentejo wines based on its favourite grape variety, Syrah. The vines are spread over 15 hectares planted on clay-limestone soils, giving the flavour the genuine character of the Alentejo.
Vinification: Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (75%) and American oak barrels (25%).
Tasting Notes: Deep colour, intense violet. Full-bodied and harmonious on the palate, generous in fruit (plum and blackberry) complemented by notes of warm spices and light touches of toasted wood. Opulent, polished and soft tannins, delicious acidity in favour of balance. The finish is long and striking, leaving a feeling of sophistication and persistence. Expressive and irresistible aroma of blackberries, sour cherries, cassis, wrapped in spices from the barrel ageing, as well as notes of chocolate, menthol and liquorice.
Grape Varieties: Syrah
Winemaker: António Maçanita
