Piantagrossa ‘Georgos’ Valle d'Aosta Donnas 2019
Piantagrossa ‘Georgos’ Valle d'Aosta Donnas 2019, as expressed by the word Georgos meaning ‘workers of the land’, is a visceral expression of devotion to the generations who have worked the land. It is an unusually full-bodied, austere and elegant wine.
Tasting notes: Bright, intense ruby colour. On the nose, notes of red fruit, harmoniously intertwined with floral nuances of violets. In the background, a subtle touch of spices, such as cloves and black pepper, as well as a light earthy and mineral aroma that evokes the mountainous landscape of Valle d'Aosta. Elegant and balanced, with fine, well-integrated tannins, providing a robust structure without being aggressive. The acidity is lively and refreshing. The finish is long and persistent, with a mineral and slightly woody aftertaste, indicating well-dosed oak ageing.
Vinification: The grapes were harvested in mid-November. It was a high quality vintage, wet in the spring and dry in the summer, with no excessive heat. The bunches were destemmed and fermented in a single 25hl steel vat at a controlled temperature (28ºC) with the lid submerged for 90 days. The wine aged for 2 years in Austrian Stockinger oak barrels.
Grape Varieties: Nebbiolo
