Casanova Di Neri Cerretalto 2018
Casanova Di Neri Cerretalto 2018
Cerretalto is a wine of exceptional character. Its uniqueness lies in the graphite notes and sanguine tones of the aroma, as well as the extraordinary length and persistence of the flavour on the palate.
Winemaking/Vineyards: The grapes come mainly from a vineyard located in a natural amphitheatre along a small river. A soil rich in minerals, a very particular microclimate and a low yield per plant. Manual selection of the grapes before and after destemming, followed by spontaneous fermentation without the addition of artificial yeasts. Maceration is assisted by a drop system, and everything takes place in open, cone-shaped, temperature-controlled fermenters for 32 days.
Tasting notes Producer: Cerretalto 2018 is a young, lively red wine. The nose expresses a mixture of fresh red fruits, spices and the usual graphite. The palate is rich and harmonious, showing an elegant and fine structure that fully reflects the 2018 vintage. The finish is balanced and very precise, with an acidity that perfectly balances the persistence, depth and roundness of this wine.

Showing dried blackberry, balsam herb, vapor rub and a hint of charred chili spice, this wine offers an aromatic profile that is very much in line with a vintage that saw cool spring temperatures and a hot summer. The Casanova di Neri 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is a wine of depth, dusty tannins and a slightly evolved fruit character. I tasted this 2018 Cerretalto next to the estate's new releases from 2019, and the latter vintage certainly offers more overall clarity and crunch. The Neri family does great work with tannin management, and although there is some chalkiness here, the wine's structure is expertly folded into the fruit concentration. Only 9,700 bottles were made.
