Château Pape Clément Red 2021
Château Pape Clément 2021 is an elegant red wine, sourced from selected vineyards and vinified to high standards of quality, aged in oak barrels. It stands out for its sophisticated aromatic profile, well-structured tannins and a style that aims to combine power and finesse, expressing the character of the Graves terroir.
Vinification: First sorting in the vineyard, manual harvest in crates. Manual destemming berry by berry and use of a sorting table. Transfer into 30-70hL wooden vats by gravity flow. Low temperature pre-fermentation maceration. Manual punching down. 30–40-day maceration. The wine is run off into French oak barrels by gravity flow. Malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. Ageing: 18 months in oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: This is really polished and beautiful with very fine tannins that caress your palate. Medium body. Refined. Currant, chocolate, hazelnut and black walnut. Some mushroom. Very complex and subtle. Drinkable now but better in a couple of years. James Suckling
Grape Varieties: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc

This legendary estate, created by Pope Clément V, who was from the Bordeaux region, has produced a fine, densely textured wine. Its ripe tannins are typical of this estate, laced in this vintage by acidity and black-currant fruits. Drink from 2027.

Love the mouthwatering freshness and the precision to the white pear, kiwi and citrus flavours. Shows careful precision, great quality, lift through the finish, saffran and sage, and the oak notes have integrated into the structure since En Primeur. Michel Rolland consultant.
Intense dark ruby, opaque core, narrow rim with purple reflections. Fine noble wood spices, red forest berries, a touch of cassis and orange zest; a multi-faceted bouquet. Juicy, dark cherries, ripe tannins, a little nougat, fresh and lively, sturdy finish, endowed with certain ageing potential.
The 2021 Pape Clément exhibits notions of sweet berries and cherries mingled with rich aromas of espresso roast, black truffles, toasty new oak and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, deep and quite extracted in style, it's a rich, fleshy wine that gained in integration and harmony over the the three weeks I spent in Bordeaux. Tasted three times.
