Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2023
Le Petit Lion du Marquis
In order to maintain the quality of the Grand Vin, Château Léoville Las Cases decided in 2007 to create a second wine, the Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases.
Winemaking
Following the philosophy of its two predecessors, this wine is vinified and matured in such a way as to preserve all the flavour of the wine throughout its evolution.
It is vinified and matured to preserve the flavour of the fresh, ripe fruit throughout its evolution. It is, however, known as a second wine, easier to access and earlier to drink, with a high proportion of Merlot.

Displays the tannic grip and heft that you hope to get in the 2nd wine of Léoville Las Cases, opening with a great dollop of spice, cocoa bean, espresso, black chocolate, black tea, and bright cassis fruit - will need a few years after bottling to fully open up. Harvest September 9 to October 2, 30% new oak for ageing. Includes the vines for both La Petite Marquise and Le Petit Lion since the 2021 vintage.
This is very fresh and crunchy with blackberries, dark cherries and hints of crushed stones. It’s medium-bodied with impressive acidity and fine, silky tannins. Shows depth and structure, too. Bright and vivid on the finish. Lightly chunky. Second wine of Leoville Las Cases. 61% cabernet sauvignon, 31% merlot and 8% cabernet franc.
