Very fruity, it is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe red fruit such as blackberry, plum and a slight cassis, with notes of dried fruit and vanilla from its ageing in wood. The first taste is smooth, fresh, full of fruit and balanced. With soft tannins, it has good acidity and excellent structure, giving it a good, fresh and long finish. It promises great longevity.

The 2018 Quinta da Costa das Aguaneiras is an 80/20 blend of Touriga Nacional and a field blend from old vines (65+ years), all aged for 12 months in new French oak. It comes in at 14.4% alcohol. Delightful, but also balanced and sophisticated, this dribbles delicious blue fruits over the palate and finishes with a touch of spice. The tannins are ripe, but there are some and they provide support. I don't imagine many, on tasting this, will have aging it as their first thought, but it can easily hold the rest of the decade. I'm not sure there is a lot of upside potential, but it should improve a little over the first couple of years. Let's lean up on this for the moment. It won't be as good as the Grande Escolha after a few more years pass, but at the moment, it has some claims to fame that get it close at half the price, including beautifully expressive fruit.
Vineyard in Gouvinhas, facing the river, 200 meters above sea level, south exposure, with Touriga Nacional (80%) and old vines, made in a granite press. It shows a profile full of ripe and tasty fruit, blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, a touch of moss too. On the palate, it surprises with its enormous freshness, solid and ample texture, a classic Douro at the highest level.
